Project Overview |
Location : Los Angeles, California
Installation Type : SkyMountTM Rooftop
System Size : 512 Kilowatts
| Opportunity |
Design and install rooftop systems to offset electricity costs at AEG’s world famous STAPLES Center and Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California. Both building sites had strict engineering, structural and aesthetic objectives. The goal was to maximize electrical generation while adhering to strict weight limitations. Another important consideration was both buildings are iconic to Los Angeles. The well known branding on their rooftops would need to be complemented by the installation design of the rooftop arrays.
| Solution |
SPI’s SkyMount® racking system was selected as the optimal solution. SkyMount’s low weight and unique design features, which enable minimal rooftop penetrations and rapid installation, provided the STAPLES Center/Nokia Theater management team with the exact solution they needed.
Because SPI’s SkyMount® system is scalable and adaptable to an almost limitless range of shapes, the system could be used to bring even more attention to the two rooftop branding features. Aerial views of the STAPLES Center famous “surfboard” structure now feature complementing ellipses of SPI solar modules. Similarly, the Nokia Theater’s rooftop logo, framed by its array, attracts even more attention during major events that draw aerial coverage. The arrays on both buildings serve as very high-profile symbols of AEG’s commitment to its companywide sustainability initiative.
| Results |
The systems for both Nokia Theater and STAPLES Center are continuing to exceed production estimates and client expectations.
